CYD Campus Annual Report 2024

The Cyber-Defence Campus is publishing its Annual Report 2024. This offers the cyber community and other interested parties comprehensive insights into the diverse activities of the CYD Campus over the past year. The report provides an overview of the research and innovation projects, technology and market monitoring and the structure of the cyber trainings.

The Annual Report gives an overview of the activities and tasks of the CYD Campus in 2024, such as early detection of cyber trends, the research and innovation of new cyber technologies as well as the training of cyber specialists and, in particular, provides information on important strategic developments and goals.

In 2024, around 63,000 cyber incidents were reported in Switzerland, which represents an increase of around 13,000 cases compared with the previous year. This increase demonstrates the growing threat in the digital environment and underscores the urgency of further strengthening cybersecurity. The Cyber-Defence Campus (CYD Campus) plays a key role in this by driving forward targeted initiatives to improve cyber resilience and the national digital transformation.

One milestone of the CYD Campus in 2024 was the first Innovation Day, at which more than 100 participants discussed the latest developments in cyber defence. In addition, the CYD Campus reinforces the Swiss startup scene. The Cyber Start-up Challenge 2024 focused on the security of artificial intelligence (KI). The start-up Patronus AI won the Cyber Start-up Challenge with its innovative platform for automated evaluation and safeguarding of LLMs. Another important function of the CYD Campus is the active promotion of talent. In 2024, 65 students took part in internships and research projects at the CYD Campus. In this connection, the CYD Alumni Association was also established to promote exchange between former Campus members and to set up a long-term network of cyber experts.

The events included the CYD Campus Conference on 30 October in Bern with more than 300 participants. The focus was on topics such as quantum computing, Next Generation Networks and AI. The CYD Campus also organised an extremely successful hackathon in the autumn on the topics of satellite recognition, security tracking and Data Science. The hackathon offered participants practical experience in dealing with the technology as well as in detecting vulnerabilities. The CYD Campus then commemorated its fifth anniversary with a celebration on 4 December in Zurich. The anniversary celebration allows a look back at the rapid development of the CYD Campus over the past five years.

In addition, more than 90 scientific publications on artificial intelligence (AI), 5G security, quantum computing and cybersecurity appeared in 2024. The CYD Campus also identified numerous security loopholes and contributed to the strengthening of the digital infrastructure of Switzerland. Thanks to these initiatives, the CYD Campus remains a key institution for innovation, research and training in the Swiss cybersecurity landscape.
